Αll our jewelry is either 925 silver or brass plated. In order to be maintained as long as possible, your jewel requires care and attention. There is a golden rule for wearing jewelry saying that «…. your jewelry should be the last thing that you put on before going out. It should also be the first thing to be taken off when you get back home……»
Cleaning, proper storage and wear protection are the key to success when it comes to caring for your jewelry. However, between cleaning and storage, do not forget to wear and enjoy them!
When you don’t wear your jewelry, you should storte it diligently in separate boxes. You should never place it into jewelry cases one over the other because there will be marks and scratches on the gems and metals.
925 Silver Jewelry
Over a period of time the silver jewelry starts to show changes in color and turns from a yellowish tint to deep yellow and even black. This natural process occurs due to the contact with the sulphur in the atmosphere and is called the tarnishing of silver. It is also α reversible process.
Ingredients in cosmetics like powder packs, hair sprays, face and body creams etc can cause your silver jewelry to tarnish easily. Wash your silver jewelry with a phosphate free detergent before storing the jewelry. This practice will protect your silver jewelry from tarnishing and rarely require you to perform any tarnish cleaning processes.
Cleaning silver tarnish tip: place a sheet of aluminum foil in the bottom of a pan, add 2-3 inches of water, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon salt, and bring to a boil. Add silver pieces, making sure the water covers the silver pieces. Remove silver, rinse, dry, and buff with a soft cloth. This method cleans the design and crevices of silver pieces. Do not use the above cleaning method with the baking soda on plated jewelry as it is likely the plating to go.
Plating is the process of applying a thin metal layer on an already metal surface. The plating colours that you will see on the Kypseli jewelry are gold (24K yellow gold plating), rose (14K rose gold plating), silver (999 silver plating) and dark silver antique.
You should keep in mind that the colour of the jewelry plating fades depending on the friction, the use and the pH of the skin and it lets the silver or brass show. This is an inevitable process. In order to extend the colour of the jewelry plating, you must remove it when you apply perfume, lotions, creams, when you wash the dishes, take a shower, swim in the sea and the swimming pool. Generally, you should carefully keep your jewelry away from chemicals, as these can create a permanent damage to your plated jewelry.
